Gardening Tips To Use Cow Manure
Organic fertilizers have always been good for the garden plants and trees. Manure is one of the most commonly used fertilizers in a garden. It is good for the growth of the plants too! Manure contains the basic elements namely, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. These elements allows the plant to produce proteins to develop strong roots, build tissues for green stems and leaves.
Cow manure is widely used in many gardens. Gardeners who are growing vegetables mostly use cow manure as a natural fertilizers for the growing plants. Cow manure fertilizer is very good and healthy for the plants. Instead of buying bagged or dried up cow manure, you can use fresh manure in the garden. The fresh cow manure fertilizer has many digestive enzymes and nitrogen that is good for your garden plants. Moreover, cow produces humus-rich manure which is good for the plants. Here are few gardening tips to use cow manure as a fertilizer.
Gardening tips to use cow manure fertilizer:
- You can use fresh cow manure for the plants. Just cover up the plant with little cow manure. Let it dry. Once the manure dries, you can fork it and mix with soil.
- To make it a feeding fertilizer, turn the manure into a compost. It can be fed to plants and used to grow root vegetables.
- As cow manure is nutrient-rich and heavy, mix with lighter materials like straw or hay.
- If you want to make an organic manure, mix with vegetable peels, garden debris etc.
- Do not use excessive amount of cow manure if you have pot or container garden. Cow manure needs enough heat that is not provided if the soil and manure is stuffed in a pot. Moreover, cow manure needs air, so a little feeding is enough for the plant to grow.
- Side dressing is another method of using cow manure in your garden. Form a shallow trench and add cow manure and same amount of soil to cover up. Water when required.
- Sheet composting is another long method that is very effective for gardening. Use cow manure and other compost (if required) and form a layer like sheet over the soil. Leave all through the winter and then roll over with soil. Fold up to 8 inches so that the dry cow manure goes down.
