Fragrant Garden Plants & Gardening Tips
1. Sweet Marjoram – The fragrant garden plant sweet marjoram or the maruga is used in garlands. The aromatic herb can be potted indoor or even placed in the balcony. The shrub can be grown with its sapling. Red soil is ideal for the growth. Watering can be done as and when the soil goes dry. A homemade compost can be used for a better growth. The advantage of growing sweet marjoram is that the strong smell of the leaves keeps all kind of germs and insects away.
2. Holy Basil – Most popularly known as Tulsi, the plant is commonly grown in every hindu household. Apart from the leaves being used, the plant itself is treated as the deity. The plant can be grown with a sapling or seeds. The are two types of holy basil, the green and the red. Red basil is commonly called Krishna tulsi and said to be a favourite of Krishna. Watering everyday will keep the plant healthy and colourful. Basil likes sunlight so it can be potted in a place that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight.
3. Davana Plant – The famous herb is used to make aromatic oils. The plant is often used with the roses and garlanded to the diety. Davana is easy to plant, it grows from seeds or the plant cuttings. Normal soil and watering everyday is more than enough for its day to day care. The aromatic herbs can be ground into paste and applied on wounds, aches. It is widely used in ayurveda and unani.
4. Betel Leaves – The pan leaf is a must to end any hindu ritual. Offering god fresh betel leaves with coconut and arecanut completes pooja, vrath or any auspicious event. These plants can be grown in hydroponic way or even as a potted plant. The soil needs to be damp always, natural fertilizers will support healthy growth of the plant.
These fragrant garden plant can be grown in a pot indoor and outdoor. The sacred herbs will not only fill greenery in the house but will also bring luck in the form of health.
