Aromatic Potpourri With Dried Flowers
We all want our homes to smell good and aromatic. There are many products that are available in market to add an essence and enigmatic aroma to your house. In many houses, potpourri is used in decorating house and making it smell aromatic. Traditionally, potpourri is a mixture of dried flowers, leaves, seeds and other ingredients that are stored in open containers or in net baskets. The dried flowers are mixed with essence to spread aroma in the house. In short, it is one of the creative ways to use dried flowers for home décor. Steps to make the basic potpourri with dried flowers:
Ingredients
- Flower petals such as mint, rose, jasmine and lavender
- Newspaper
- Potpourri basket (made of net)
Procedure
- Place the flower heads on the newspaper and spread them wide apart.
- Leave them to dry for around 2 weeks.
- Now, pick up the browned flower petals and then arrange them in the potpourri basket. You can also keep them in a bowl and use as a centerpiece.
This was the basic method to make potpourri using dried flower petals. Now try this creative potpourri using dried flowers, leaves, spices and fruit peels.
Ingredients
- Fragrant flower petals like roses, carnations, hibiscus, violets, and lavender
- Orange peels
- Lemon peels
- Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg or cardamom powder
- Essential oil- few drops
- Rosemary and chamomile herbs
Procedure
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
- Now blend them together. Check if the aroma and essence is strong or not. Add more herbs, spices and essential oil if required to get the strong aroma of the potpourri.
- Cover the mixture in an air-tight container and leave for 4-5 weeks so that the smell develops. Shake the container every alternate day.
- Once the potpourri is ready, you can use them to decorate the house and make it smell good at the same time. The aroma of citrus peels, flowers, spices, dried flowers and essential oils will make your house smell great!
