World Diabetes Day 2023: Daily Habits That Make One At Risk Of Diabetes
World Diabetes Day, observed on November 14th every year, is a significant global campaign to raise awareness about diabetes. The theme for World Diabetes Day 2023 is 'Access to diabetes care,' emphasising the importance of everyone having equal access to necessary care and treatment for diabetes.
On this Diabetes Day, let's explore some everyday mistakes that can increase your risk of developing diabetes.

Habits That Makes One At Risk Of Developing Diabetes
The International Diabetes Federation says that around 537 million people globally have diabetes, and this number might increase to 643 million by 2030. In India, things are quite worrying - more than 77 million adults have diabetes, and around 44 million might have it but don't know yet.
This shows that it's really important to learn about and prevent diabetes by making smart choices in our daily lives.
1. Unhealthy diet choices
Consuming excessive sugary and processed foods contributes significantly to diabetes risk. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), high sugar intake is directly linked to the development of type 2 diabetes.

2. Sedentary lifestyle
Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for diabetes. The American Diabetes Association reports that regular exercise improves insulin sensitivity, reducing the likelihood of diabetes.
3. Ignoring family history
Neglecting the impact of genetics is a common oversight. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation emphasises the hereditary aspect of diabetes, making individuals with a family history more susceptible.
4. Neglecting regular check-ups
Failing to undergo routine health check-ups may result in undiagnosed diabetes. The International Diabetes Federation states that early detection and management significantly reduce complications.

5. Excessive stress
Chronic stress can elevate blood sugar levels. The American Diabetes Association highlights stress management as a crucial aspect of diabetes prevention.
6. Inadequate sleep
Poor sleep patterns can disrupt insulin sensitivity. A study in Diabetes Care indicates a strong association between inadequate sleep and an increased risk of diabetes.

On A Final Note...
As we observe World Diabetes Day in 2023, let us collectively strive towards the theme of 'Access to diabetes care.' Through understanding and avoiding common mistakes, we empower ourselves and our communities to take charge of our health.
