World Boss Day 2023: Is Your Boss Gaslighting You? Know The Signs
World Boss Day is observed each year on 16 October. Everyone should gear up to celebrate World Boss Day 2023 on Monday. It is a day where we express our appreciation and love for our bosses.
Of course, our bosses play an important role in our careers because they provide us with advice and assistance. But it is very important to know when one is not!

What Is Gaslighting?
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where a person seeks to make their target doubt their own reality or sanity. It is actually a power play that can occur in various relationships, including boss-employee dynamics.
What Are The Signs of Gaslighting?
Constant denial: If your boss habitually denies events or conversations that you clearly remember, this could be a sign of gaslighting. Studies indicate that frequent denial can lead to self-doubt and anxiety among employees.
Shifting blame: Gaslighting bosses often deflect responsibility for their actions onto their employees. This tactic can undermine your confidence and motivation.

Withholding information: Keeping vital information from you intentionally is a common gaslighting technique. Scientific data reveals that such tactics can lead to a lack of trust and a hostile work environment.
Isolation tactics: Gaslighters often isolate their victims, creating an environment where employees feel unsupported and isolated.
How Does Gaslighting Affect You?
Gaslighting can have serious repercussions on your overall well-being. Research shows that victims of gaslighting may experience increased stress, anxiety, and even symptoms of depression. In the workplace, it can lead to decreased productivity and job satisfaction.

How To Deal With Gaslighting?
- If you feel like something is wrong, trust your instincts. Studies suggest that self-confidence is a powerful tool against gaslighting.
- Keeping a record of conversations and events can provide evidence if you need to address the issue with higher management or HR.
- Share your experiences with trusted colleagues or friends to gain an objective perspective. Sometimes, a second opinion can be a game-changer.
- If you are sure of the gaslighting, consider having an open, honest conversation with your boss. Discuss your concerns calmly and professionally, and try your best not to have outbursts as it may elevate the situation negatively for you.

On A Final Note...
There is no doubt that we must celebrate and acknowledge our good bosses as we approach Boss Day 2023; on the other hand, it is equally important to acknowledge and address toxic behaviours such as gaslighting.
