There are so many things that happen when you turn 40! Turning 40 is a fabulous thing for every woman out there.
Unfortunately, your health cannot always turn out to be magical as it was in your 20s.

Your metabolism can slow down, and it also increases the risk of you contracting several diseases. It will turn out to be difficult to neglect any kind of symptoms that your body throws from time to time.
Of course, this doesn't mean that you have to give in to the tantrums thrown while heading towards the middle age. But you can make some changes to your lifestyle as you grow older.
Not all your activities can help you out as you grow old. Some habits can be too risky for you to continue as you age.
Those are the habits that we have listed in this article. Scroll further through this article to know more about the habits to be avoided if you're someone who's hitting 40 or is already above 40.
Do Not:

1. Skip Strength Training:
Cardio is something that you should do and continue to do by the time you hit 40s. We begin to lose muscle mass by the time we turn 30; and this rate becomes higher as we touch the 40s. Muscle mass plays a big role in metabolic rate and you shouldn't let this happen.

2. Give In To Sugar Cravings:
Too much of sugar decreases the body's ability to process it. This can lead to insulin resistance as well as type 2 diabetes. You need to keep your sugar intake below 25 grams per day.

3. Put Off Mammograms:
During your 30s, the risk of getting breast cancer is 1 in 228. When you turn 40, the risk becomes 1 in 69. It is recommended for 40 plus women to start their mammograms by the time they turn 40 and continue it once or twice in a year.

4. Let A Bad Mood Stay:
When you turn 40, depression is more prevalent in women than in men. But only a less number of people seek medical help for this condition. So, if you're depressed over any issue, you must not let this mood continue for more than two weeks.

5. Stay Up Late:
Not getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep at least after you hit 40s can highly cause an impact on your well-being. Sometimes, hormonal side effects, decrease in melatonin level, etc., can also affect the natural sleep cycle. This is one of the top bad habits that women must avoid at 40.

6. Skip Visits To The Gynaecologist:
Skipping the visit to the gynaecologist altogether must be completely avoided. Pelvic or breast exams and other annual check-ups for any health issue are necessary.

7. Forget SPF:
As you grow old, it is very important to protect your skin from damage. Applying a facial cream or moisturiser along with a sunscreen of a good SPF value is recommended.

8. Skip Eye Exams:
After you hit 40s, you're more likely to experience eye problems. You need to go for eye exams to catch the early signs of vision problem.

9. Skip Giving Attention To Dental Care:
Taking care of your teeth as you age can help avoid several health issues. It is necessary to keep gum-related disease and heart disease at a distance.

10. Stop Taking In Vitamins:
During menopause, the decrease in oestrogen can lead to the loss of bone density. Hence, it is necessary to maintain a good bone density before hitting menopause. This will prevent the risk of osteoporosis. This is one of the top bad habits of women over 40, which they must take care of.
