This One Habit Can Be A Root Cause Of All Your Digestive Problems
Drinking water right after your meal can be dangerous. Check out this article to know how it affects.
All of us reach for a glass of water after a fulfilling and satisfying meal. But do you know that it can lead to problems such as digestive issues and rise in blood sugar levels?
Yes, you read that right. Drinking water right after a meal can be the worse habit to have.

Our stomach has a knack of knowing when we are about to eat, as it starts secreting the digestive juices. Drinking water dilutes these juices and they are no longer able to breakdown the food particles.

Also, according to Ayurveda, the Agni present inside our stomach is responsible for digesting our food. It is responsible for making us feel hungry before eating and helps in digesting our food after meals.
Drinking water at both these times affects the stomach's functioning, as it weakens the Agni.
Now, read on to know more about why you need to stop drinking water after meals ASAP.

1) It Causes Stomach Bloating Issues:
Drinking water immediately after a meal will weaken the Agni and will result in indigested food being formed. This indigested food creates gas at a faster rate, leading to bloating of the stomach.

2) Leads To Digestive Problems:
When there is indigested food in the stomach, you end up feeling uneasy. The partly digested food has difficulty passing through your colon. This leads to constipation, gas, acidity, etc. It may develop to bigger problems as the time passes by.

3) Acidity Can Be Caused:
When you drink water after your meals, stomach acid gets diluted. The undigested food stays longer in your stomach, which can lead to your stomach producing excess acid to digest it. This may cause acidity.

4) This Can Increase Your Blood Sugar Levels:
Another major problem caused by undigested food is rise in sugar levels. There is a usual spike in blood sugar level after meals but it increases when undigested food is left in the stomach for a longer time.
I hope these are reasons enough for you to stop drinking water right after your meals. The ideal time to drink water is half an hour before and after your meals.
This will help your digestive system work more effectively. Sipping small amounts of water during meals is also considered healthy, as it will lubricate the digestive tract and soften the food and stools.
So, make sure you steer clear of water before and after a meal; and you will enjoy a healthy digestive system.
