Inspire 2011 – World Asthma Day Camp For Children
Featuring fun-tastic & innovative games along with yoga, art and craft, 'Inspire 2011', on the occasion of World Asthma Day, will include various games that will provide a fun filled camp atmosphere at the same time impart valuable knowledge and know how to the children themselves with respect to asthma.
The children will also be instructed on various techniques like anger management, breathing techniques that will help them cope with asthma. The reputed yoga instructor Sri Badrinarayan from Patanjali Yoga Kendra would be lending his support for these activities to be held in 'Inspire 2011' – World Asthma Day.
Spread over two days between 9.30am to 3.00pm on day 1 and 10.00am to 1.00pm on day 2, the 'Inspire 2011' – World Asthma Day camp will held at HSR Layout (30 Apr-1 May), Jayanagar (7-8 May), BSK (14-15 May) and Bannerghatta Road (21-22 May).

Games details:
| Anatomy Jigsaw | 4 to 7 yrs and 8 to 12 yrs | The first game in 'Inspire 2011' – World Asthma Day is for the older children. They are grouped into smaller groups.Each group is given a set of jigsaw (A slightly complex 30 to 40 piece puzzle making up the structure of the human respiratory system). Children can use the aid of a reference image and have to replicate the same using the pieces of the puzzle.
This game will give the children an idea about their own respiratory system. |
| Breathing pipes | 4 to 7 yrs and 8 to 12 yrs | Each team of kids is given a group of pipes* (of varying diameters and holes on one end with names - Trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and terminal bronchioles. The children should connect the pipes with each other (in order of diameter - largest to smallest or by names) by placing them in the holes and making a continuous flow of pipes. Water is then poured from the largest pipe end and collected on the other end (if they are able to do this quickly, they are then asked to pour water in the opposite direction). The team that collects the most in a collecting jar (bisleri can with marking gradient) is the winner. Later on, a demonstration flow is done in one of the models where the last pipe (smallest diameter) is clamped off and shown how there is a restricted flow of water due to the clamp.

| Bronchial Relay | 4 to 7 yrs and 8 to 12 yrs | Each team has 6 stations with one child positioned in each station. A child (runner) picks up an empty tube from the 1st station and runs to the second. The child at the second station helps the runner to stick a layer of clay to the inner surface of the tube after which the second child takes the tubes and runs to the third station. Here, a layer of cotton is stuffed into the insides of the tube and the third child runs to the fourth station. Here, a bunch of rubber bands are attached around the tube in the centre causing a constriction. The fourth child takes the tube to the fifth station which is termed the reliever station. Here, all the stuffing and rubber bands are removed. Then the tube is taken to the last 'finish line' station. The first team to reach their respective finishing station wins.
This game will emphasize the importance of usage of Inhaler and also how the medication works. |
| Peak flow game | 4 to 7 yrs and 8 to 12 yrs | Individual breathing game where children are first separated out as per their height and each height group functions separately. Each child in a height group competes against one another to score the highest value in the peak expiratory flow. Each child is given 3 chances.
This game will emphasize the importance of usage of the peak flow meter.
