By Priya Devi

At this competitive age you can't afford to let your child lag behind in his IQ. Not only food but also a lot of brain workout is needed to enhance his IQ. IQ tests are the best way to work out his brain. By the age 5, parents should start with IQ tests on their child.

IQ tests check seven abilities of a child. They are – language, information, memory, math, spatial, thinking and fine – monitoring skills.

Every individual has all these seven abilities but IQ tests only helps to enhance them and regular practice makes you best at them. These abilities help in regular life, not only in the academics of your child but also in the day to day work.

Here are seven steps to enhance your child's IQ -

1.Language – Ask your child to read aloud and correct his pronunciations. This will make him perfect in his language skills. Talk to him and let his answer. Generally, a child speaks three languages, one is his mother tongue and two he learns in school. Mother tongue comes naturally but the other two needs to be worked on. Talk to him in one language at a time.

2.Information – Encourage the child to read. Reading is the best way to gain knowledge. His book be more of picture stories. It is a known fact that pictures influence brain more than printed words. Shapes, sizes, capital letter etc, will be clear to him when he brushes through them everyday.

3.Memory – He needs to remember what he learns. To remember is sometimes a tough task specially for children who have just started going to school. To enhance his memory, tell him tales. After you finish, ask him to narrate the story back to you. He is sure to miss on a few points but with regular practice he will remember. Make the tales small.

4.Math – No matter how much we hate it, it is the best brain work out. If you ask him to do math problems, he will surely loose interest. So, keep it playful. Ask him to count stairs, birds, plates etc.

5.Spatial – Give him puzzles to solve. Give him enough time and let it be a challenge. Puzzle solving is the best way to unwind his thinking and problem solving ability.

6.Thinking – Don't solve all this problems and doubts. Let him thinking and come up with answers. If he cannot get the ball from under the bed, let him think of ways to get it out. This will enhance his thinking and problem solving abilities.

7.Fine-Monitoring – He needs to monitor his hands and eyes. Allow him to dress up for school, tie his shoes, paint pictures using colour paints etc. These may sound easy but for a five year old is difficult but he will learn.

Such IQ tests are a great way to train your child towards a better intelligent level. Parents need to make sure that the IQ tests should not boring. If the child is not interested in the test, he might never want to take it again.
