Healthy Kitchen For Better Lifestyle

Healthy Kitchen

An American cardiologist confirms that processed foods can have ill effect on taste buds apart from heart disorders and waistline.

February being American Heart Month, Saint Louis University cardiologist Melda Dolan, has called upon the SLU community to give their kitchen a heart-healthy makeover.

Dolan said,“Maintaining a heart-healthy diet is easier than you might think, but it does require a life-style change.Once you learn how to shop for and cook with fresh ingredients, you"ll see that it"s easy to do."

Dolan pointed out 10 tips for a healthier kitchen.

1.Say goodbye to processed foods such as frozen meals and canned goods. They are high in sodium and simple carbohydrates, which can lead to obesity.

2.Use fresh herbs to add flavor to your cooking rather than salt.

4.Replace butter with olive and vegetable oil, to make food less fatty

5.Quit frying your foods. Eat more of vegetables.

6.Welcome fish and chicken into your diet. These are low in fat, fish contains omega fatty acids, which are important in lipid management.

7.Limit red meat and pork. They are higher in fat and speed up the atherosclerosis process, which leads to heart disease.

8.Enjoy fresh fruit for dessert rather than cake or ice cream.

9.If you drink alcohol, limit yourself to one drink per day. Red wine contains heart-healthy flavonoids and antioxidants. Alcohol is most fattening agent.

10.Serving size should according to your hunger and not according to lust.

A healthy kitchen will lead to a better lifestyle and ensure wellbeing in family. But with a healthy kitchen, exercise is also very much needed.
