“Prevention Is the Real Cure”: Key Takeaways from BoldSky’s World Health Day Panel
"Prevention is not a choice anymore-it's a necessity."
On the occasion of World Health Day 2026, BoldSky conducted a panel discussion titled Healthy Bharat: Powered by Science, bringing together four experts from across healthcare and science-Dr Anshuman Kumar, Dr Urvashi Prasad, Hemant Jain, and Dr Abhimanyu Bhatia.
The conversation moved beyond surface-level awareness and focused on a deeper, more urgent reality: India is not just dealing with diseases, but with a growing culture of late diagnosis, lifestyle risks, and reactive healthcare.
Cancer is Increasingly Linked to Lifestyle
One of the strongest takeaways from the discussion was the growing role of lifestyle in disease development, particularly cancer.
Experts highlighted that only a small percentage of cancers are purely genetic, while a significant number are influenced by factors like diet, inactivity, stress, and environmental exposure.
Another key perspective shared was that cancer can also be understood as a metabolic imbalance-something that develops over time if underlying triggers are not addressed.
Early Detection Can Change Everything
"If detected early, many serious conditions can be prevented or even reversed."
The panel repeatedly stressed the importance of early screening and timely intervention.
A crucial point raised was that many people ignore symptoms until they become severe. Experts advised that any unusual symptom lasting more than a few weeks should not be overlooked.
At the same time, the discussion acknowledged a critical gap; some conditions may not show clear symptoms at all, making regular health check-ups even more important.
The Problem Isn't Awareness-It's Action
While awareness around health has improved, the panel pointed out that there is still a disconnect when it comes to actually acting on that knowledge.
Preventive healthcare, whether it's regular exercise, balanced nutrition, stress management, or routine screenings, is often deprioritised until a health issue arises.
The experts emphasised the need for a mindset shift from treatment to prevention.
Technology is Changing Healthcare-But Access Remains Uneven
The role of AI and genomics in transforming healthcare was another major theme.
From predicting disease risks to enabling personalised treatments, these advancements have the potential to make healthcare more proactive and precise.
However, the panel also noted that accessibility and affordability remain key challenges, especially in a diverse country like India.
Listening To Your Body Matters
Another important takeaway was the need to pay attention to subtle changes in the body.
Persistent fatigue, unexplained symptoms, or recurring discomfort should not be dismissed as minor issues. The body often signals imbalance early; it's up to individuals to respond in time.
The Takeaway
"The real shift will happen when prevention becomes a habit, not advice."
The BoldSky panel didn't just highlight problems; it reframed how we look at health altogether. Because the conversation is no longer just about curing diseases. It's about catching them before they begin-and, where possible, preventing them entirely.
