Fish health benefits have been universally accepted and all those people who relish a fish dish definitely have an edge over the non-fish eaters. What is it in fish that makes it so healthy? Well, the answer to this is not all that simple as benefits are far more than one. In fact different parts of the fish like the fish head, fish skin and fish oil have their own set of benefits.

Fish can be said to be a wholesome food in many respects. Besides it is a storehouse for nutritional values that helps keep many diseases at bay. While diseases do not come close the overall condition of a person is improved several notches.

Cardiovascular diseases: Omega 3 fatty acids is a name we often come across and fish is a very rich source of this very good fatty acid. In simple words it helps bring down blood pressure, decrease triglycerides, reduce blood clotting and regularize heartbeats thereby helping reduce the chances of cardiac diseases. It also helps improve learning abilities in children.

Cancers: One of the deadliest diseases of the present times is cancer. The mere name of cancer is enough to jolt an ailing person. However, the presence of fish health benefits in one’s diet is believed to reduce the risk of various types of cancer like ovarian, breast, oral, colon, prostrate and that related to the esophagus.

Brain functioning: Fish oils, especially those found in fatty fishes, are considered to be excellent for the brain. Around two servings of fish in a week are highly beneficial for healthy brain functioning. A good source for this oil is found in fish like mackerel, tuna, sardines, oyster, herring and salmon.

Thyroid and iodine: The fish head is not preferred by many people but the benefits its holds may change opinions. On its own and as fish head stock it is found to be beneficial in deficiencies of thyroid and iodine. Further it releases gelatin which is so very helpful in maintaining a good digestive system.

Depression: One condition gripping many young people is depression. Owning to changed lifestyles and eating habits depression has become rather common. Fish health benefits are found to be helpful in this region as well. It has been found that people who regularly include fish in their meals have lower incidences of depression.

The current age of living has seen a great upheaval in many respects but one thing that has suffered the most is people’s health. Life threatening diseases like cardiac arrests, cancers, depression are striking at a very early age. One thing that can help keep things in control is that what goes in the meals.
