8 Healthy Habits For Maintaining The Blood Sugar Level
One of the important tasks for you if you are suffering from diabetes is to maintain your blood sugar level. Therefore, it is necessary to develop healthy habits because we can easily slip into unhealthy ones occasionally.
It is very important that you keep your weight in control and avoid serious consequences. Here is a list some healthy habits that can be done daily to keep the insulin and blood sugar levels in check:
1. Get Proper Sleep
Deprivation of sleep can cause serious effects on the blood sugar level, as shown in various researches. Hence, it is very important to get enough sleep to stay healthy. Developing the habit of sleeping and waking up consistently at a fixed time can give enough rest to the body and improve the blood sugar level.
2. Fitness Training
Try to indulge in low intensity fitness programs for at least once in a week. Exercising causes your body to burn glucose and hence it does not accumulate in the blood. It also energizes the body to stay active and fresh.
3. Do Fun Activities
Studies have found out that staying happy can lower the blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. If you laugh a lot while watching a comedy movie just after having a meal, you can burn enough glucose and this keeps the blood sugar level in check. Other fun activities like playing with children can also contribute towards lowering your blood sugar level.
4. Go For A Walk Everyday
Make it a habit to walk at least 1 to 2 kilometers a day to keep the body fit and healthy. Walking a total of 30 kilometers per week can reduce the risk heart diseases and improve blood functioning. It makes your blood cells more receptive towards insulin and helps to control the blood sugar by increasing the level of good cholesterol.
5. Include A Glass of Wine In Your Dinner
Studies have shown that drinking a glass of wine at dinner can cut the risks of diabetes. You also try a can of beer if you do not like wine. It helps to keep the level of insulin in check and thus controls the amount of cholesterol in the blood.
6. Eat Healthy Food
Always eat foods that have high fiber and protein content and less carbohydrates. The fiber in your food causes excellent synthesis of blood glucose and thus keeps it in check. Fruits like Apple, Banana, Papaya, etc. and starchy vegetables like corn, chickpeas and spinach are very good sources of fiber that help to maintain proper health.
7. Perform Stress-buster Exercises
Stress is one of the most harmful parameters to cause an increase in the blood sugar level. Try to relax by performing meditation for 15 to 20 minutes. Stress relief helps a lot in bringing down the blood glucose level and thus helps you to maintain a healthy body. It also contributes towards having a proper blood circulation and a healthy heart for the diabetic patients.
8. Go for Decaffeinated Coffee
Eating sweet dishes and desserts often causes the blood sugar level to rise. Develop the habit of consuming decaffeinated coffee as it contains simple sugars that do not affect the blood glucose levels. It does contribute towards the elevation of blood sugar level and thus helps to maintain it.
