Jennifer Winget On Finding A New Creative Side: From Playing Different Women To Creating Something Of Her Own

For nearly two decades, Jennifer Winget has made a career out of stepping into the lives of other women. Different characters have allowed the actor to explore contrasting personalities, emotions and experiences. But after years of portraying women written by others, Winget is now exploring a different kind of creative expression - one that begins with her own ideas.

The actor has collaborated with Ekatra Jewels as a co-creator for NOT JUST ONE, a solitaire jewellery collection built around the idea that a woman can embody several qualities at once. For Winget, however, the more interesting part of the project appears to be what it allowed her to do: create something rather than simply represent it.

"I've always tried not to stay in one box... as an actor, or as a person. I don't think any of us are just one thing. We're constantly changing, growing and discovering different sides of ourselves," Winget says.

After 20 Years Of Playing Different Women

Jennifer Winget's acting career has involved constantly moving between characters. Each role requires her to understand a different woman and find the details that make that character distinct. Her latest project reverses that process.

Instead of being handed a character to interpret, she was involved in shaping the jewellery collection herself, including choosing the shapes and considering how the pieces would look and feel when worn.

"I've spent 20 years playing different women. With this, I got to create something of my own," she says.

That distinction is central to how Winget views the collaboration. It is not simply another extension of her work as an actor, but an opportunity to explore a creative interest that comes from her own relationship with jewellery and personal style.

The Idea Of Not Having To Choose One Identity

The collection takes its name from the idea that there isn't necessarily one defining version of a woman. Its seven solitaire shapes are linked to different qualities: Round represents confidence, Marquise courage, Heart nurturing and love, Pear curiosity and creativity, Oval clarity and mindfulness, Emerald drive, and Multi shape authenticity.

Rather than suggesting that each quality belongs to a different kind of woman, the concept brings them together as different sides of the same person.

"Each shape in the collection represents a different part of who we are, who we were, who we're becoming, and everything in between," Jennifer Winget says.

For an actor, the thought has an obvious resonance. Playing different characters can reveal aspects of human nature that might otherwise remain unexplored. In much the same way, Winget believes people can move between different versions of themselves without having to settle on a single identity.

For Jennifer, Jewellery Is About Self-Expression

Jennifer Winget's interest in jewellery also comes from the way she wears it herself. She prefers pieces that can become part of everyday dressing rather than something brought out only for special occasions.

That thinking influenced the collection's approach, with different jewellery forms and shapes that can be worn individually or combined. The emphasis is on personal choice rather than prescribing what a particular piece should represent.

"Jewellery is personal. For me, it should feel like an extension of you... whoever you choose to be that day," she says.

The sentiment fits neatly with Winget's broader approach to identity. Just as she can inhabit different characters on screen, she sees personal style as another way of reflecting a changing mood or side of oneself.

She Wanted To Create, Not Just Represent

Perhaps the clearest indication of what the project means to Jennifer Winget comes from her own distinction between being the face of something and actually having a role in creating it.

"And with NOT JUST ONE, I didn't want to simply be the face of a collection. I wanted to create one," she says.

The campaign around the collection similarly explores the seven shapes through different moods and everyday moments. But for Winget, the jewellery is ultimately secondary to the larger thought behind it - that there is room for contradictions and change within the same person.

She also sees a personal connection in the idea of creating something with intention. The concept of grown diamonds appealed to her because of the thought that something can be shaped deliberately, much as people are shaped by their choices, experiences and the things they build over time.

A New Creative Chapter Without Leaving Acting Behind

This venture does not represent a shift away from the profession that has defined Jennifer Winget for most of her adult life. She remains an actor, but she is allowing herself to explore another creative discipline without feeling the need to turn it into a new identity.

"Acting will always be my passion. Creating jewellery is something I'm discovering and loving in a completely different way," she says.

And perhaps that is the most fitting part of NOT JUST ONE for Jennifer Winget. After spending 20 years becoming different women for the screen, she is now exploring what it means to create something from her own point of view - while refusing to define herself by just one role, one profession or one version of who she is.
