Onion Tomato Coconut Milk Kuzhambu
Kuzhambu means a stew. This particular South Indian vegetarian recipe is made with onions and tomatoes which are cooked in coconut milk.
The spices give this dish an appetising aroma. The soothing taste of the coconut milk makes this dish extremely delectable. It is a perfect for the winters and you can serve it with hot idlis, rice or chapatis.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
All you need
- Onion- 1 cup (chopped)
- Tomatoes- 2 cups (chopped)
- Green chillies- 2
- Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
- Chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
- Tamarind paste- 1/2 tsp
- Dhaniya powder- 1/2 tsp
- Jeera powder- 1/2 tsp
- Thick coconut milk- 2 cups
- Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Urad dal- 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Salt- as per taste
Procedure
- Heat the oil in a pan.
- Splutter the mustard seeds and urad dhal.
- Add the chopped chillies, onions ,turmeric powder and salt. Fry till the onions are transparent.
- Add the tomatoes and cook till they are soft.
- Add the powders, tamarind paste and a cup of water.
- Cook till the onions are cooked and the raw smell is gone.
- Now , add the coconut milk and simmer for a minute.
- Remove from heat .
- Garnish with coriander leaves .
Serve hot with rice or other tiffin varieties.
