Aloo Ki Kadhi: Navratri Vrat Recipe
Navratri means nine days of fun, frolic, dancing, fasting and feasting as well. Most North Indians do not partake non-vegetarian food during Navratri. They do even have onion or garlic during these nine days when the Goddess Durga is being worshipped. That is why; most Navratri recipes are vegetarian and cooked keeping in mind religious sentiments.
But as this festival will go on for nine days, you need to have a wide variety of Navratri recipes to satisfy your taste buds. You can hardly repeat foods during the festive season. That is why; aloo kadhi recipe is an innovative dish that you can try out during Navratri. It is a special dish that is not typical. Kadhi is usually not made from aloo.
If you are looking out for Navratri fast recipes, then you too can try out aloo kadhi because it does not contain normal salt or rice.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- Potatoes- 500 grams (boiled and mashed)
- Red chilli powder- ½ tsp
- Singhare Ka Atta- ½ cup
- Yogurt- 1 cup
- Curry leaves- 5
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Red chillies- 2
- Ginger (sliced)- 1tbsp
- Coriander powder- 1tsp
- Oil- 2 cups
- Rock salt- as per taste
Procedure
- Mix red chilli powder, potatoes, salt and singhare ka atta. Make a nice batter with it. Keep ¼ of the mixture aside.
- With the rest of the batter, make small and round pakories.
- Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan. When it steams, deep fry the pakories in it.
- Once the pakories turn brown, strain them and keep them aside.
- Mix the yogurt with the remaining batter and add 4 cups of water to it
- Heat 1tbsp oil in a pan and season it with cumin seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
- After 30 seconds, add ginger and coriander powder. Stir and saute for 1 minute.
- Pour the yogurt and batter mixture into the pan and allow it to come to boil.
- Add the fried pakories to the kadhi and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
You can have aloo ki kadi with vrat ke chawal if you are fasting for Navratri.
