5-Minute Puli Aval Treat For Breakfast

In India, there are many traditional breakfast recipes but there are only a handful which can be prepared in less than 5 minutes. Puli aval is one such dish where you can turn too especially in the morning. Working mothers this recipe is dedicated to you.

Preparation time -under 5 minutes
Cooking time -under 10 minutes
Serves -1-2

Ingredients

  • Poha -1 cup
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Tamarind paste -1 tsp
  • Salt as needed

For the seasoning

  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida/hing - a generous pinch
  • Bengal gram dal/kadalai paruppu - 2 tsp
  • Red chillies -2
  • Green chillies -1
  • Roasted peanuts -2-3 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - few

Preparation

  1. You first need to wash the poha. Wash the poha twice and drain the water completely.
  2. To this, add turmeric powder, tamarind paste, little salt and mix it well with the help of a flat spoon.
  3. Now keep this aside and in meantime prepare the seasoning using the ingredients under the list mentioned.
  4. In a kadai, heat oil. Wait for the oil to get hot and add in the mustard seeds. When it starts to splutter, add hing, channa dal, red chillies, green chillies, peanuts, salt needed and curry leaves. Mix these ingredients well together.
  5. When the dal turns golden brown, fluff the poha and add it to it. Mix well, check for salt and cook for another 3 minutes.

Now switch off the flame and serve papad or potato chips to add a crunchy feeling to this yummy puli aval recipe.
