Channer payesh is probably not as commonly made as Shankarpali or Gujia for Diwali but it is an innovative Indian dessert you can try for Diwali. This Diwali recipe hails form the eastern parts of the country. Channer payesh literally translates from Bengali into cottage cheese kheer. It is a kheer recipe made out of cottage cheese known as 'channa' in Bengali and 'paneer' in Hindi. The ingredients definitely give indications of a mouthwatering treat of creamy dessert for Diwali.

This Diwali recipe can be made very quickly; preparation time is about 20 to 30 minutes. In fact you can prepare it much faster than normal kheer. So for Diwali bring in some change in your Diwali sweet tooth mania by trying something different. This dish would be your ideal choice because its quick and easy.

Ingredients Of Channer Payesh:

1. Cottage Cheese-250 grams
2. Milk-1 litre
3. Condensed milk-1 can
4. Sugar-1 cup
5. Cardamom-4
6. Raisins-10
7. Cashew-10
8. Pistachios-10
9. Ghee

Procedure For Channer Payesh:

  • Mince the cottage cheese or channa in a mixer-grinder. Do not make it into a smooth paste; leave it slightly rough.
  • Heat ghee in a deep pan and scatter the cardamom over it.
  • Heat milk in the same deep pan. As it comes to bubble, pour the can of condensed milk in it and stir to mix as you do so.
  • Add the sugar to it after 2 minutes. Make sure the sugar is finely ground. If it is granular it will take more time to dissolve.
  • After the milk boils for about 5 minutes add the minced cottage cheese lumps to it.
  • Keep stirring continuously as the milk boils for the next 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Five minutes before you remove the pan from flame, add the raisins, cashews and pistachios.
  • Let it cool for an hour and then refrigerate for another hour.
