Tasty North Indian Mathri

Mathri is a popular north Indian snack and it is known for it's delicious flavour. Indian snacks are extremely spicy and have distinct flavours. This Indian recipe is fried and is very easy to prepare. Mathri is a snack which is prepared with simple ingredients that are always available in your kitchen. So you can try out this delicious snack by following some simple directions.


Ingredients

2 Cup Maida (Unbleached flour)
¼ th Cup Semolina (sooji)
2 tsp Salt
½ tsp Whole Black Peppercorns
1/8th tsp Baking Powder
2 tbsp Curd/Yogurt
7 tbsp Warm Water
4 tbsp Melted Ghee
Ghee Oil For Deep Frying

Directions To prepare

  • Mix flour, salt, cracked pepper and baking powder in a bowl.
  • Add ghee and rub till it becomes rough like breadcrumbs
  • Combine curd with water to make a firm dough using this liquid
  • Cover the dough with a cloth and set aside for 30 minutes
  • Divide the dough to prepare small balls and roll out all the balls from the mathri dough
  • Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan or vessel
  • Fry the prepared mathris in the pan over a moderate heat.
  • Fry till the mathris become pale gold in colour. Do not fry till mathris becomes brown because then they will get burned.
  • Remove and drain out the oil. Repeat the process for all mathris.
  • Make sure you wait till the fried mathris cool down and then you can strain to sieve any excess flour that is remaining.

You hot mathris are ready to eat.
