Ever tried preparing the authentic Chicken 65 at home? Well, the spicy, deep-fried snack is a popular item in south Indian restaurants. The bar snack is prepared using cayenne pepper, mustard and vinegar.
And if you are wondering why it is called 65, there is a history behind the name. The bright red chicken recipe was named after the year the famous restaurant introduced it. Spicy Chicken 65
Ingredients:

  1. 2 lb Boneless skinless chicken thighs
  2. 2 cloves
  3. 1 cinnamon
  4. 1 piece of cardamom
  5. 1 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  6. 2 tsp red chilli powder
  7. 2 tsp rice flour, maida and cornflour
  8. 1 egg
  9. Red food colour
  10. 2 cups curd
  11. 10 Green chilies
  12. Lime juice
  13. Vegetable oil for frying
  14. Salt according to taste

Garnish:

  1. Chopped coriander
  2. Onions (chopped, stir fried in oil) garnishing

How to make Chicken 65:

  1. In a bowl, combine cornflour, maida, rice flour, ginger garlic paste, chilli powder, egg, spices, little water and salt. Make a thick batter.
  2. Add the chicken pieces and marinate for about an hour.
  3. Deep fry the soaked chicken until golden brown.
  4. In a sauce pan, heat oil, fry chicken pieces for one more time with slit green chillies, curd, red colour and salt. Fry about 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer the contents of the pan to a decorative bowl and garnish with chopped coriander and fried onions. Tasty chicken 65 is ready.
