LFW’14: River Island’s Retro-Chic Style
Day 2 of LFW 2014 started off with a vivid variety of designers compiled together. And now when the day is about to end, we had the opportunity to see our first retro collection of this fashion week. Retro or the 70s style is a very common theme that is seen in fashion events. However, River Island is the first in LFW 2014 to present a collection based on the retro-chic style.
The stand-out features of this collection were cut-out sleeves, pencil skirts, mini dresses, one shoulder jumpsuits and the use of blingy fabric. Lakme Fashion Week 2014 is a massive fashion fiesta. Gloss and bling are the primary themes of this collection. And the element of gloss has been maintained in almost all the designs.
If we rate this collection purely on the basis of creativity then it is not exactly stunning or out of box. Very few new elements have been introduced into the collection from the fashion point of view. But from the commercial perspective, these clothes are highly wearable. Even though they have not been presented with charming novelty, the designs are fashionable.
We have a feeling that the River Island collection for LFW 2014 will be able excite buyers if not fashion experts. On the LFW 2014 ramp, Kriti Sanon who is the latest Bollywood sensation for the fashion scene was seen as the showstopper. She looked dapper in a glossy short pencil skirt and matt gold top.
Pencil Skirts
There were a number of pencil skirts in this collection. Pencil skirts, especially short ones are distinct features of the retro style
Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits were also originally brought in during the 70s. This black jumpsuit has a cropped finish and the start pattern is also very retro-chic.
Cutout Sleeves
These deep cut sleeves were a striking feature in the collection. The cut-out sleeves added a touch of modernity to this period collection.
Mini Dresses
Some of the mini dresses in this collection were fit and flare in style. There were also some examples of pencil dresses that were short and closely fitting.
High Low Skirt With Shrug
Both the concept of a high-low hemline of the skirt and trend of wearing shrugs is a recent one. This is a re-interpretation of the modern trends in the retro style.
Showstopper
Kriti Sanon was the showstopper for River Island at LFW 2014. The matt silver look was alluring. We liked the metallic short skirt teamed with the comfy and blingy top.
