The year 2012 was a very special one. Before doomsday arrives, we must all dress to our best. That is why, all the fashion designers and fashion houses have put in their best to give us some of the best saree styles ever. 2012 was a bumper year for saree lovers. Not only did we see some magnificent saree designs but even new saree styles were invented.

The lehenga saree for example is a new saree style. It is basically a saree that is draped like a lehenga. Many celebrities were seen wearing the lehenga saree this year. While some looked ravishing in simple sarees, some of the best sarees were became big flops because they were not carried well.

There were always various saree draping styles that came into the limelight this year. Queen Khan (Gauri Khan) invented a style of her own. We saw her come to the 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' premeire wearing a weirdly draped saree. Whereas Bollywppd fashionista Sonam Kapoor looked graceful in an interestingly draped saree at one of the fashion shows this year.

Some of the best sarees of 2012 were those that were simple and not too gaudy. Let us also not forget that there were 5 high profile celebrity weddings this year. They too contributed to some of the best sarees of the year.

As the year draws to an end, let check out the sarees that you can add to your collection. There are also some saree styles that we best forget.

Like The Sunflower

Preity Zinta looks like a beautiful sunflower in this bright yellow lehenga saree. As the saree was single toned, it looked brilliant.

The Yellow Disaster

After the vibrant yellow Preity's saree, this dull yellow saree worn by Vidya Balan is an absolute wash out. The colours are all wrong and the brocade blouse is the last straw in the hat.

White As A Fairy

The saree is gorgeous and there is no doubt to it. But the stylish kamarbandh that has been tastefully added to it, takes the saree to a different level.

A Keech Of Colours

This saree worn by Rashmi Desai proves that there can be such a thing as too much colour!

Beige Beauty

The saree is a beige coloured plain chiffon saree. But the way Sonam Kapoor has draped it makes it special.

The Clumsy Knot

The saree may not have been so bad, but the way Gauri Khan has draped it is very clumsy. She looks like she will trip over her saree any moment.

Rich And Creamy

This saree was worn by Zarine Khan at the IIJW 2012. The rich creamy colour and the green trimmings look excellent.

Too Netty For Comfort

We don't know what is uglier, the saree or Rani Mukherjee's tummy showing through the net pallu.

Black And Gold

This is actually a basic black saree with golden work. But the black lace blouse makes it an absolute marvel.

Colours Gone Wrong

This saree is a sad example of colour combination gone horribly wrong.

Simply Red

It is always the simple sarees that looks the best. This red silk saree is the perfect example.

Bling The Bad

Even an excess of bling cannot save a bad saree from its fate

Bong Style

Kajol draped a traditional tant-silk saree during Durga puja. The saree is a rich gold and white in colour. It is a taste of tradition that will always be in fashion.

Boring Black

If you have to wear black and gold, make it bright. So, this drab saree style does not work for us.

Red Ridding Hood

This totally transparent red saree is one that we will not forget easily. The material used here is super-net.

Red Is The Colour

Another red masterpiece from designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
