10 Super-Hydrating Lip Fixes For Winter!

By Kumutha

Winter is coming! And so is the season for dry and lack-lustre skin. The real problem area though is the lips. They are dry, flaky, with skin dangling off sometimes with an open bleeding wound.

And when you apply the oh-so-gorgeous matte lipstick, it is like caked with dry mud, yes, we've been there too! To lock in the moisture and repair the broken skin cells, what you need are super-hydrating lip fixes, which is precisely why we are here for!

Though we all keep moisturising lip balms in handy; in winter, it is just not enough, and our lips dry out too soon, become tight and eventually crack, leading to sores.

Before we further explore the herbal lip masks, there are a few other lip care rules you need to keep in mind.

Rule no 1 - Never bite your lips, even if you feel your pout flaking and you are sorely tempted.

Rule 2 - Avoid licking your lips, as it dries them out, plus it can cause them to become darker.

Rule 3 - Never touch your lips.

Rule 4 - Last but not the least, always buy a lip balm infused with SPF properties for protection from outside elements.

And for that added nourishment, here are 10 super-hydrating lip fixes! Have a look.

Honey + Petroleum Jelly

Mix 1 teaspoon of petroleum jelly with an equal amount of honey. Mix until they blend well. Before hitting the sack, massage the concoction onto your lips. In the morning, using a brush, gently scrub your lips to remove the dead skin layer!

Honey being a humectant and petroleum jelly being an intensive moisturiser can keep your lips lush all day long!

Beeswax + Almond Oil

Melt 1 tablespoon of beeswax in low flame. Allow it to cool. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of almond oil to the wax. And using a fork, beat it well. Store the balm in a small jar, and massage it onto your lips every time you feel it getting chapped.

Packed with high vitamin E, humectant and antioxidants, this nourishing DIY lip-repairing mask works ten times better than any balm you can get your hands on.

Wash Cloth

Take an old muslin wash cloth, dip it in hot water. Wring out the excess water, and let it cool down lightly. Then, press the cloth onto your lips. Hold it in place for a few seconds. Continue doing this for a minute or two. Follow it up with your regular moisturiser. This simple trick will keep your lips smooth and soft, all day long!

Sugar + Olive Oil

Mix 1 tablespoon of sugar with half a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix it into a gritty paste. Apply it onto your lips and scrub in a circular motion. Do this for a minute or two. Later, rinse it clean with plain water. This mask will remove dead skin cells, without drying out your lips!

Cocoa Butter + Coconut Oil

These natural ingredients not just nourish lips, but also soothe and heal cracked skin!

Mix a teaspoon of cocoa butter and a few drops of coconut oil. Keep stirring it rigorously, until you get a thin smooth paste. Massage it onto your lips, and leave it on overnight.

Ice Rub

Massaging lips with ice cube will not just soothe dry lips, but also help the lips absorb moisture better, stimulate blood flow, which in turn makes the lips turn soft and lush. For that added nourishment, you can also try rose water ice cubes instead of the regular ice.

Milk Cream + Saffron

Take half a teaspoon of milk cream and mix in a couple of strands of saffron. Keep mixing it until the herbal lip mask changes colour. Massage it onto your lips. Let it stay overnight, and in the morning, rinse it clean!

Lactic acid in this mask not just hydrates the lips, but also reduces pigmentation overtime!

Shea Butter + Olive Oil + Beetroot Juice

Melt a teaspoon of shea butter, mix in an equal quantity of olive oil and a few drops of beetroot juice. Before going to bed, massage the concoction on to your lips. And in the morning, scrub it clean with a soft towel.

High on moisture content, this balm heals, repairs and rejuvenates your lips!

Peel, grate and extract the juice of a cucumber. Keep it in the refrigerator to chill for 15 minutes. Dip a cotton pad into the solution and dab it onto your lips. Let it get absorbed naturally. Repeat several times in a day.

High with water and antioxidants, this simple trick will hydrate your lips and keep them from flaking out.

Drink Water!

Nothing beats dry and chapped lips the way H20 does. Keep a bottle of water handy and keep chugging on it every chance that you get!
