Stammering or stuttering has become a common problem among children these days. Many children, especially between the ages of 2 and 5 find it hard to repeat certain words, or read a phrase or sentence. Even if they manage to complete a sentence they either prolong them, stop between the lines and pronounce the word differently. Though many parents ignore it by thinking it to be normal, they need to detect this disorder soon in order to get fix the problem.

If your kid is suffering from stammering, you need to understand that there are no instant cures for this disorder. But, this stammering problem among kids can be treated by consulting an experienced speech therapist who can actually guide you with the effective practices and techniques. At the same time this problem can also be dealt at home through simple practices and techniques that are effective and can be useful for your kid in a long way.

1. Yoga
Yoga not only is useful for the mental and physical health but is also recommended for kids and even adults who have the problem of stammering. Yoga keeps a person's mental health in good shape. When your kids are worried or tensed, they start stammering out of fear. Yoga helps them relax,and stay in a happy mood.

2 . Practice in front of the mirror
This is the best method to overcome stammering. Make your kid stand in front of the mirror. Now ask him/her to read the sentences loud. Usually this technique is used by people to overcome stage fears as well. Practicing this technique daily will also help overcome stammering problems of your kid.

3. Read books
Many kids do not like to read books. Parents must make sure that your kids inculcate the habit of reading books. Reading out loud though will be a problem initially. It will eventually teach your kid how to breathe. As one big problem most stuttering or stammering kids have is when to breathe while reading or talking. This technique will help kids with stammering problem in a long run.

4. Breathe properly
As said earlier breathing during reading or speaking is a problem for kids who are suffering from stammering. In order to get over the problem, they need to practice a simple exercise of inhaling and exhaling. This will also help them to speak in moderate pace.

5. Speech therapy
When it comes to consulting psychologist or speech therapist, many parents are reluctant to seek their help for the stammering child because they don't want to increase their child's self-consciousness about the problem. But the fact tells us that speech therapy should boosts your child's confidence as he or she learns to manage stammering and improve speaking skills.
