Bhadrapad Purnima Vrat Katha Significance
This vrat katha is mentioned in Matsya Purana and according to this, once upon a time, there was a sage called Durvasa, who was returning after meeting Lord Shiva. On his way, he crossed paths with Lord Vishnu and Durvasa gave him Bael leaves, a garland given by Lord Shiva instead of wearing it himself.
Lord Vishnu took the garland and put it on the neck of Garuda. Durvasa saw this and became very angry and cursed him saying that you have disrespected Lord Shiva and due to this, Goddess Lakshmi would go away from him and that he would also have to leave Kshirsagar and Sheshnaag would not help him.
Listening to this saddened Lord Vishnu immensely and he then respectfully asked Durvasa to offer a solution in order to free himself from the curse. The sage then told him to perform the fast of Uma Maheshwar and only then everything will fall in place and he will be able to get Goddess Lakshmi back.
