Vithakark kallaal aridhu.
By way of translation of this Kural, I cannot do better than adapt from Rajaji:
Poverty is wealth, if it arises from causes which give a man fame; such death too
Is life everlasting and welcome to the noble sages.
Such poverty and death, which lead to fame, come only to those wise ones, who appreciate true values. Karna, in the 'Mahabharata,' was an outstanding exponent of such values.
The idea here is similar to what is contained in Kural 230.
