Thirukkural- On Virtue- Avoidance Of Meat-Eating-Kural-255

By Staff

Thirukkural, kural 255
Unnaamai ulladhu uyirnilai uoonunna Annaathal ceyyaadhu alaru.

Avoidance of meat-eating is a vital virtue; on the other hand Meat-eating leads to sin that cannot be eradicated.

Abstaining from meat-eating is a vital virtue; there is no 'prayachith' or full forgiveness for the sin of meat-eating.

Here again Valluvar's purpose is to take to task those who would try to isolate the slaughtering from the neat-eating.

I have already quoted the line from Jeevaka Chinthamani 1235, which says that people who make it a practice of meat-eating would merit hell – Ref. Kural 251.
