Sai Sat Charitra-Chapter XX-Part II (Continued)
The Sadguru, The Source Of All Knowledge
Sai Ram. Bookish knowledge cannot help unless it is supplemented by experience. Thus, the sweetness of sugar cannot be communicated to some one without giving that person a little sugar to experience its taste. At the same time, simple experience without the ability to discriminate or differentiate is also not useful since the experience needs to be communicated through language. For example, a small child also experiences the sweetness of sugar or the bitterness of neem, but has no words to express. It conveys its experience with facial grimaces or by licking its tongue.
Thus the need for both Jnana and Karma is seen even in day-to-day life and thus it is not surprising that spiritual seekers get confused about the path to be taken when setting out on their sadhana. Sai Ram.
SadGuru only competent and Qualified to Explain
"As we have seen, this Upanishad is the quintessence of the Vedas. It is the science of self-realization, it is the scythe or weapon which can rend asunder the bondage of life and death, and make us free. Therefore, he thought, that He who has Himself attained self-realization, can only give him the true or correct interpretation of the Upanishad. When nobody could satisfy Das Ganu, he resolved to consult Sai Baba about this."
Sai Ram. Das Ganu did the right thing since he knew Sai's unwavering Brahmananda (Spiritual Bliss) and thus knew His unique position to add the practical touch to the theoretical explanations of the pandits. Sai Ram.
"When he got an opportunity to go to Shirdi, he saw Sai Baba, prostrated himself before Him, and mentioned his difficulties about the Ishavasya Upanishad and requested Him to give the correct solution. Sai Baba, blessed him and said- "You need not be anxious, there is no difficulty about the matter, the mind-servant of Kaka (Kakasaheb Dixit) will solve your doubts at Vile Parle, on your way home". The people who were present there and who heard this, thought that Baba was joking and said, "How could an illiterate maid-servant solve the difficulties of this nature", but Das Garu thought otherwise. He was sure, that whatever Baba spoke, must come true, Baba's word was the decree of the Brahma (Almighty)."
Sai Ram. Faith in one's Sadguru is important. The word Sadguru signifies True Guru (who is our indweller but has taken an external form to help us see Him inside our heart when we are ready). Baba also knew the faith of Das Ganu and thus was sure that he will benefit from the lesson. Sai Ram.
