PM Modi On Karnataka–Goa Visit: From Spiritual Events In Udupi To Unveiling Of A 77-Ft Ram Statue In Goa
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's day is split between Karnataka and Goa, but the focus across both states is the same - culture, faith and institutions with deep public significance. He will begin his morning in Udupi, where he is scheduled to visit Sri Krishna Matha for spiritual events and interactions with seers. By evening, he will be in Goa to unveil what organisers say will be the world's tallest statue of Lord Ram, standing at 77 feet.
First Stop: Udupi's Sri Krishna Matha
Udupi is not a political pit stop today. The Prime Minister is visiting Sri Krishna Matha, one of the region's oldest spiritual centres, founded over 800 years ago by philosopher Madhvacharya. At 11:30 AM, he is expected to participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana - a massive Gita chanting event featuring nearly one lakh participants, including students, monks and scholars. Along with that, he will also inaugurate two key elements inside the Matha:
- The Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, a newly built structure near the main sanctum.
- The Kanaka Kavacha, a golden covering for the sacred Kanakana Kindi associated with the saint Kanakadasa.
It's a stop that blends tradition, restoration and community participation - something that resonates deeply in coastal Karnataka.
Second Stop: Goa's 77-Foot Landmark
From Karnataka, the PM heads to Partagali (Partagal) in South Goa, home to the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt.
Here, he will unveil the 77-feet bronze statue of Lord Ram, sculpted by Ram V. Sutar, the same artist behind the Statue of Unity.
The event isn't standalone; it marks 550 years of the mutt's spiritual lineage, a milestone the community has been preparing for with major renovations and cultural programmes.
What's New At The Mutt
The mutt premises have been upgraded to handle the surge of visitors expected over the 10-day celebration period. Organisers estimate 7,000 to 10,000 people a day.
Alongside the statue, the day will also see:
- A Ramayana Theme Park Garden opening inside the complex.
- Release of a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin.
- A helipad has even been set up within the mutt premises to accommodate the PM's visit.
The Larger Picture
Both visits - Udupi and Goa are tied by a common thread: celebrating institutions that have stood for centuries, and bringing national attention to places that hold emotional weight for the communities around them. It's also a rare moment where two coastal states see back-to-back events centred on faith, heritage and cultural identity.
