Ganesh Chaturthi 2023: It is on this day that Lord Ganesha was believed to be born, which is during Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. The puja is preferred during midday which is Madhyahna Kala. This year Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Tuesday, 19 September 2023. However, one interesting thing about this day is moon sighting is prohibited during this day and there is an interesting reason behind it.

According to spirituality, by looking at the moon one gets coolness, creativity increases and a man becomes happy and moon has also inspired a lot of poets and authors.

But, if one looks at the moon carefully, then one will notice that dark spots are also visible on the moon. Scientists call these craters, which appear like black spots on the moon's surface. Ganesh Chaturthi 2023: Why Is It Prohibited To See The Moon?

The elephant-headed God of Hinduism, Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Parvati and the remover of obstacles, was born on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This day is known as Vinayak Chaturthi. When Goddess Parvati was taking a bath, Lord Shiva came to meet her but Lord Ganesha stopped Lord Shiva from meeting her because Goddess Parvati had ordered that no one should be allowed inside the house.

Angered by this, Lord Shiva cut off Ganesha's head. Later, Goddess Parvati cried a lot after seeing her son in this condition, so Lord Shiva placed the head of an elephant on Ganesha's torso and due to this Gajanana Ganesha was born again. This is said to be a symbolic act of bringing one from body consciousness to soul consciousness.

After this, when Ganesha was touring the earth, everyone started singing his praises but the moon was silently smiling proud of its beauty. Ganesha became angry at this and cursed the moon that it would be covered in black spots.

From this day onwards, it is inauspicious to see the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi which is the birthday of Lord Ganesha because on this day Lord Ganesha cursed the moon. Even lord Krishna was falsely accused when he accidentally saw the moon on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Therefore this day is also called Kalank Chaturthi. Every year, Ganesh Utsav starts from Ganesh Chaturthi and continues till Anant Chaturdashi.
