Osho On The Role of Miracles or Special Powers In Spirituality

A short story, a Sufi story narrated by Osho explains the truth.
The great Sufi mystic Rabiya was approached by Hassan, another mystic.
Hassan had just learned to walk on water and wanted to show off his skill. He thought that his acquired special power was a great miracle and wanted Rabiya to know of it. Hence he beckoned her to show off his achievement under the pretext of engaging in a spiritual discourse.
Hassan said, “Let us go and walk on water and have a spiritual discussion"
Rabiya suggested, “Not on water. I would prefer to have the discussion sitting on the clouds!"
Hassan confessed, “Oh but I don't know to reach the clouds"
Rabiya admitted, “Neither do I. Why should we walk on the water or sit on the clouds? Let's have our discussion here right now!"
Osho points out that all true mystic were against miracles or special powers as they are a hindrance in one's spiritual growth. They deny the simple truth of being in the present were the mind is not involved in fanciful ideas. To remain in the present is a leap in one's spiritual growth and paves way for spiritual enlightenment. The enlightened on the other hand are always in the present, with the mind merged in the moment.
