Adjusting to each other’s timing

Adjusting to each other’s timing

Marriage does bring two people into a relationship. But it does not mean one person's life becomes completely dependent on the other's. You have your own jobs to do and live your individual life. But the trick is to make that little adjustment to be together. Look for spending quality time with each other. Whatever little time you get together, make the most of it. This is a wonderful relationship that needs to be cherished every moment.

Making room for in-laws

Making room for in-laws

One of problems new couples face is related to in-laws. When you marry someone, you also come into a relationship with your spouse's parents and siblings. It might not be possible for you to like or love them as your own parents or siblings, but at the same time, you cannot tend to ignore them. If you want to have a happy and healthy relationship with your spouse, you need to respect his or her family as well.

Priorities

Priorities

Two individuals will obviously have different priorities. Some may be common and some different. Respect the priorities of each other. It could be meeting office deadlines or completing house chores. Be an understanding couple and avoid all kinds of misunderstandings.

Home adjustments

Home adjustments

This may not sound as a relationship problem at the outset but a little bit of mismatch in choices can lead to unnecessary fights or quarrels. It could be something as small as choosing a piece of furniture. The idea is to look for happiness in each other's choices and respect one another.

Likes and dislikes

Likes and dislikes

Dating and marriage are two different things. When dating, you will want to do everything to keep your partner happy. You might like and dislike as per the choice of your partner, but after marriage things change. Now, your choices are your choices and you would want to have your way. Romance does take a backseat at times. Try to keep the fire of romance burning so that you both are always on the same level.

Going out with friends

Going out with friends

You surely love your partner very much but you also need to spend time with your friends, and so does your partner. So if one of you wants to go out with friends without you, do not take it as an insult. It is just normal. If you try to impose yourself, you might lose your loved one.

 Me times

Me times

Similar to 'friend' times are 'me' times. We all need time to be with ourselves, to look into ourselves and spend some time in solitude. This is not trying to ignore a partner. In fact, spending some time with one self can be healthy for a relationship as it helps one to reflect upon life and aspects related to it.

Family issues

Family issues

Entering into a relationship with a person you love does not break earlier ties. They stay where they are and still require your attention. In case a family member needs help, you need to understand that. Your spouse or you have to be there to help each other. Shunning duties and responsibilities does not strengthen but weakens ties.

Money matters

Money matters

This can be a rather tricky one. Money is not all but still an important part of life. How much to spend and on what to spend are sensitive issues, especially if both the partners are working. It can even result in ego clashes. Do not look at it as my money and your money. Rather go for ‘our money', work as a team to set up your home and family.

Role defining

Role defining

Who does what? There is one house and many duties to fulfill. Living alone is different from living together. Responsibilities increase and work at home too goes up a little. Help each other out, work on the home as a team and get things done together. Try to avoid things like ‘it is not my work'.
