Internet, A Matrimonial Platform

Internet Dating
Older adults turn to the Internet to find “The Perfect One" mainly because of the time constraints they have in their busy lives.

Alicia Cast, an associate professor of sociology at the Iowa State University and her graduate research assistant, Jamie McCartney, examined nearly 175 central newly wedded couples and found that spouses from 25 of those couples first met through the world wide web.

In many cases, there are some structural forces that encourage the support and use of these technologies and one of them is just structural constraints on people's time. Those with long working hours, who have kids or have other unavoidable responsibilities turn to online dating.

There's an interesting contradiction --- people who take the help of online media to find his or her love, may not be perceived as being serious by friends and family. But those who are doing the actual searching may look at it as a way to be incredibly serious about the process.
