This is an afterthought of listening to the latest Bollywood song "Dil chaahe paisa" (Heart needs money) from the movie Apna Sapna Money Money (My dream is money and money only). The world is after money on these days. However when the question of money is related to the gender difference there are some interesting aspects worth noted.

There are some wide beliefs with regard to the difference between men and women handling money. It is widely believed that men may spend money like water and women may not spend even a single paisa for unnecessary things. Women are believed to be the looters of their boyfriend's bank account and men are believed to do the same to their wife's family property. Let us see the other side of these stories.

The present day boys are smarter than their predecessors. Many boys are aware of their high fees or expenditure awaiting them since expenditure. However why should they spend money for trivial matters as their predecessors! They have many solutions to live high on a low budget as stitch out the branded labels on similar low cost jeans and exchange the gadgets as well as gizmos with friends on important situations.

The modern boys are more cautious to settle their lifestyle before getting married. They do enjoy with girl friends and run away from the scene if they have to open their wallet more than twice. Now, they do not have to bargain their dowries. Their in-laws are ready to give a huge pocket money to settle his wife's future.

The advance of women's movement has brought a major change to modern women's financial handling. They do not want to depend on men for financial support. Why should they keep their money in lockers as the ever changing glamour world offers them new dimensions? 'Dowry' will be apartheid to them lest the pocket money offered by their parents during the wedding time.

Now, I can guess who will be the winners in money handling in this modern age. Many must have contemplated on the role played by money on a man-woman relationship. In fact there is no such hard and fast role of money in man-woman relationships on these days. There is no strict marks such as who is the saver and who is the spender.

Last week only I witnessed an old situation as a girlfriend bribing her boyfriend for an expensive mobile phone on the name of love! There are still boys who powders their parents' NRI money for one night at a disco. There are women who may not open their wallet unless to make a 1Rs/-call. The scenario is ever changing.
