Overcome Depression During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time when your body has to go through various changes, both physical and mental. The effect of various hormones will make you suffer from various mood swings. Depression is one such common condition associated with pregnancy. Women need support and care not only for her physical well-being, but also for her emotional health.

Other than the hormonal effects other factors will also contribute to depression. It can be stress about your body changes, pregnancy complication, fear for delivery pain, financial status or family problems. Here are some tips to get rid of depression during pregnancy.

Depression During Pregnancy

Prepare for the newcomer: Get ready for welcoming your newcomer. You may search and select baby names, get your baby nursery ready or prepare mentally for motherhood. Thoughts about an exciting motherhood will help you overcome depression during pregnancy.

Be positive: Fear about delivery pain and other pregnancy related complications are the major reasons for depression during pregnancy. Understand and be realistic about the situation. You should consider pregnancy as a normal physiological process that a woman should come across.

Exercise and yoga: Exercising and practicing yoga will definitely do wonders on your mental health too! Allocate some time in your daily routine for pregnancy exercises and yoga. It will keep you physically fit and at the same time will keep your hormone in balance.

Share your feelings: Instead of thinking and over thinking about anything, it is better to share your feelings with someone; especially with your partner. Your partner might offer you nice solutions. Sharing will help overcome depression during pregnancy.

Be a family lover: Being surrounded by happy people all around will keep you happy. A family is the better place for that. Understand that your family is also excited about your pregnancy. Being with them and sharing your feelings with them will help you to overcome depression during pregnancy.

Enjoy a hobby: Spending time with some of your favourite hobbies will keep you active and energetic. Having a hobby will make you busy and entertained. Involving in any hobby that demands your time and concentration will be a good option to overcome depression during pregnancy.

Good sleeping habits: Pregnancy demands proper rest and relaxation of your body. Try to maintain a good sleeping habit during pregnancy. Relaxing your body and mind will definitely help in defeating depression during pregnancy.

Consult a doctor: If you feel that you cannot keep your mood swings in balance, it is always recommended to seek medical advice or counselling. For severe cases, your doctor may prescribe antidepressant drugs that are safe during pregnancy.
