Considering these factors, alternatives such as flat shoes are advisable for expectant mothers.
Pregnancy is a time of significant physical change for women. As the baby grows, so does the mother's body, leading to changes in balance and posture. One area that often comes under scrutiny during this period is footwear, particularly high heels.
With their reputation for causing discomfort and potential harm even in non-pregnant individuals, it's no wonder they are often discouraged during pregnancy.

The Myth of High Heels during Pregnancy
A common myth circulating among soon-to-be mothers is that wearing high heels can lead to miscarriage or premature birth. However, there isn't any scientific evidence supporting this claim directly.
That said, it doesn't mean that sporting stilettos while carrying a child comes without risks.

Wearing high heels alters your center of gravity which can already be off-balance due to the growing belly during pregnancy. This increases the risk of falls which could potentially harm both mother and baby.

Additionally, as pregnancy progresses, hormonal changes cause ligaments to become more relaxed making ankles more prone to sprains or fractures when walking in heeled shoes.
Physical Discomforts from Wearing High Heels During Pregnancy
Apart from safety issues, prolonged use of high heels can also contribute towards back pain – an issue many pregnant women already struggle with due to increased weight load on the spine.
Swelling or edema in feet and legs - another common occurrence during pregnancy - might worsen if you wear tight-fitting shoes with elevated heels.

Alternatives to High Heels During Pregnancy
Given these potential risks and discomforts associated with wearing high-heeled footwear during pregnancy, it would be prudent for expectant mothers to consider alternatives such as flat shoes or ones with low wide-based heel support for stability and comfort.
