Hyperactive kids can really distract you and make things make difficult for you to handle. Hyperactive kids are those young ones who are restless and lack focus at times. To control their brain and calm a hyperactive kid, you need not only need to be strict, but also see what your kid is eating. Kids who are hyperactive are thin and lack essential nutrients. Even after feeding them good food, the kid is thin. This is because such kids need to follow a special protein and nutrient rich diet that controls their brain functioning, provides protein and calms them as well.
Certain foods that are rich in proteins like nuts especially almonds are good for the brain. To decrease the symptoms that hyperactive kids have, here are few diet tips that a mother should follow.
Diet tips for hyperactive kids:
Diet: Diet plays one of the major roles in hyperactive kids. Provide foods that are healthy and nutritious. Healthy foods like beans, meat, eggs, cheese and nuts also fight deficiencies in the body. Exclude foods that make your child hyperactive.
Omega-3 fatty acids: These are good brain foods that are effective for hyperactive kids. Include such foods in the diet. For example, fish especially tuna and salmon, walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
Calming foods: You must include calming foods in the diet of hyperactive kids. Calming foods are rich in magnesium and calcium which controls the brain functioning and also improves concentration and focus. For example, avocado has potassium and mono-saturated fats that stabilises blood pressure and reduce stress.
Avoid preservatives: Preservatives and colouring in foods disrupts the normal functioning of the nervous system and this affects the adrenaline. Avoid preservatives and artificial sweeteners as they affect the blood sugar levels too.
Balance blood sugar: Hyperactive kids eat more sugar than others. This increases glucose in the body and raised glucose levels keeps the kid active. Increased body metabolism is not the only problem. Balancing blood sugar levels is good for the overall health of the child and prevents diabetes too.
So what to include? Calming fruits like peaches, mangoes, berries, oranges, freshly cut veggies like celery sticks, baby carrots, cabbage and cauliflower are foods that you must include in hyperactive kids diet. Low fat yogurt, cottage cheese must also be included in the diet. Fibre rich cereals and whole grains are also good for hyperactive kids. Make sure you include milk and eggs as they are rich in calcium. Moreover, hyperactive kids need strong and dense bones.
