Right Parenting Can Control Alcoholism

By Religare

Parenting
Parents play an important role in the lives of children. Here is a study that says how good parenting can reduce the intake of alcoholism in teenagers.

According to a New Brigham Young University, a study was conducted on 5,000 adolescents as well as their parents. Later researchers have found that parents who scored high on both accountability and warmth, had teens with least chances of heavy drinking, whereas parents so called 'indulgent" nearly tripled the rate of heavy drinking

'Strict" parents high on accountability and low on warmth increased the risk of teenage alcoholism

The BYU researchers also noted that teens were more likely to have non drinking friends if their parents scored high on warmth and accountability.

“The adolescent period is a kind of a transitional period and parents sometimes have hard time navigating that," said Stephen Bahr, a professor in BYU"s College of Family, Home and Social Sciences.

“Although peers are very important, it"s not true that parents have no influence," she added.

“Make sure that it"s not just about controlling their behaviour – you need to combine knowing how they spend their time away from home with a warm, loving relationship," said co-author John Hoffmann.

Thus parents need to be careful in bringing up their children. Wrong parenting can built wrong characters, which is curse for a life time.
