Mums – Behind Your Success!

By Cara

Mother teaching child
Parents always want a secure future for their children and to achieve this, they do anything and everything which is in their hands. For their kids, they hunt for the best school and dream about the best college. Parents not only get their kids enrolled in dance, vocal or other hobby classes but also drop, wait and pick them up.

Contrary to the mothers of the early 20th century, today's college-educated mothers go at extreme lengths to secure a place for their children in top universities. Earlier, mothers were busy with their household work and had no time and knowledge for their kids education.

Now they are well-aware and know how to groom their kids for the future. The amount of time dedicated to childcare had gone up dramatically in the past 20 years.

Women spend shocking amount of time co-ordinating and driving their children from one organised activity to another. This phenomenon is dubbed as 'the rug rat race' by economists, Garey and Valerie Ramey.

It is feared that over attention given to the kids can either groom them in a better way or make them Jack of all traits and master of none.

Valerie Ramey said, "If investing in your kids like this also makes them better citizens or has other benefits for society, then this increase in time spent on childcare might be a good thing. But it could also be that these private decisions are not socially optimal."
