Women are considered as the common victims of domestic violence. Once they reach the threshold of their old age, the nightmares of their young days" maltreatments start to affect them in an adverse way. Older women exposed to high levels of family violence during lifetimes are likely to have poor health.

The violence that the woman might have endured includes physical violence, emotional, financial, and domestic violence. These violent acts be it from intimate partner violence or elder maltreatment, worsens their physical and mental health.

Theresearch team from Temple University School of Medicine and Emory University School of Medicine conducted the study and the report appears in the Journal of Women"s Health.
