Will Virat And Anushka Feature In Hanuman Ansh 2? Their Spiritual Journey Explains The Buzz
Hanuman Ansh producer Namrata Singh has revealed that the makers have approached several well-known personalities for the sequel to the spiritual drama, sparking speculation among fans about Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. Neither cricketer nor actress has said a word publicly. Yet the guessing game makes sense the moment you look at their history with Neem Karoli Baba, the saint the film is built around.
Hanuman Ansh traces the early life of Lakshmi Narayan, a boy in pre-Independence India who leaves home after his mother's death in search of God, a journey that ends with him becoming the revered saint. Made on a budget of under ₹2 crore with no established stars, the film has crossed ₹100 crore in India, and Hombale Films is now taking it to international audiences through Hombale Overseas. Singh has said the trilogy's second part will focus on devotees whose lives Neem Karoli Baba touched, before the third traces his influence on powerful figures worldwide - which is presumably where a Kohli-Sharma cameo would fit, if it happens at all.
A Bond That Predates The Movie
Virat and Anushka's association with Neem Karoli Baba is not new, and it did not start with a film pitch. The couple are widely described as devotees of the saint, and Anushka shared his photograph after Virat scored a century in September 2022. They visited his ashram at Kainchi Dham, near Nainital, on 17 November 2022, offered prayers, and spent time in reflection. During that visit, kept largely under wraps, the couple reportedly chanted the Hanuman Chalisa, joined the aarti, and learned about the ashram's history from a member of its trust board.
Two Ashrams, Several Years
Neem Karoli Baba has only two ashrams in India - one in Nainital, where he spent most of his life, and another in Vrindavan, where he left his body in 1973 - and the couple have visited both. Weeks after one such visit, Virat scored his 45th ODI century, ending a long 1,043-day wait for one, a coincidence that only fed public fascination with the pairing of faith and form.
Their spiritual trips have continued in the years since, from Kainchi Dham with daughter Vamika to Premanand Ji Maharaj's ashram in Vrindavan, and most recently, a day after Kohli's Test retirement, when the couple sought blessings from spiritual leader Sant Premanand Govind Sharan in Vrindavan. Where the saint's teachings have taken them, cameras have often followed.
Why It Fits The Franchise
Devotion to Neem Karoli Baba is a fairly exclusive club, one that reportedly includes Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg among its more famous names, as the ashram's own lore goes. If the makers of Hanuman Ansh want faces to represent modern devotees for the sequel's chapter on lives Maharaj-ji touched, Virat and Anushka's own trail of ashram visits makes them an obvious, if unconfirmed, choice.
