What Did India Order On Swiggy In 2023? From 207 Pizzas In A Single Day, To 271 Cakes Per Minute On V-day
Did you know that in 2023, Swiggy didn't just deliver food; it delivered joy, one order at a time? And let me tell you, my friends, India didn't hold back on pressing that order button!
The popular food delivery app has recently revealed the full list on how India 'Swiggy'd' its way through 2023, and trust us, it's as spicy as your favorite golgappas!

So, buckle up as we take a culinary journey through the diverse tastes and quirky ordering habits that kept those Swiggy delivery bags full and zipping across the country.
From Mumbai's Big Spender to Bhubaneswar's Pizza Party
Let's start with a bang! One high-rolling Mumbaikar racked up a staggering ₹42.3 lakh on Swiggy orders. Talk about living the 'treat yo' self' life! Meanwhile, Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad didn't shy away either, each with over 10,000 orders. Even Jhansi got in on the action, with a single order that could feed an entire kingdom - 269 items, to be exact. But hold onto your hats because Bhubaneswar threw down the gauntlet with a pizza party for the ages - 207 pizzas in one day! Can you imagine the cheese pull on that?
Sweet Triumphs and Global Flavors
During Durga Pujo, Gulab Jamuns ruled supreme with more than 7.7 million orders, leaving Roshogollas in the dust. Navaratri saw Masala Dosas flying out of kitchens, while one Hyderabadi customer spent a cool ₹6 lakhs on Idlis - that's some serious dough for steamed dough! And when it came to the battle of cuisines, Japanese food karate-chopped its way to the top, outperforming Korean dishes in the order race.
Bangalore: The Unrivaled Cake Capital
Bangaloreans showed their sweet tooth by earning the title of 'Cake Capital,' thanks to 8.5 million cake orders. On Valentine's Day, love wasn't just in the air; it was in 271 cakes per minute! And one Nagpur resident clearly had a party or a severe cake obsession, ordering 92 cakes in a single day. Now that's what I call having your cake and eating it too, 92 times over!
Healthy Bites and Biryani Fights
It wasn't all sugar rushes in 2023. India also craved healthy and guilt-free options. Sugar-free desserts saw over 2.1 million orders, and vegan orders shot up by 146%. Meanwhile, millet-based dishes and terms like foxtail, buckwheat, and jowar became the new foodie buzzwords. Yet, amidst the health craze, Biryani continued its reign as the most-ordered dish for the eighth year, with 2.5 biryanis ordered every second. And during the India Vs. Pakistan World Cup match, Chandigarh basically turned into Biryani Central.
Swiggy One, One Lite, and Dineout: The Savers of the Year
Swiggy One and One Lite users saved a whopping ₹900 crores, while Dineout folks saved ₹300 crores. Talk about a side of savings with your meal! And when it came to speedy delivery, Swiggy Instamart broke records by delivering instant noodles in just 65 seconds. That's faster than most of us can decide what to watch on Netflix!
Green Miles and Delivery Smiles
The real MVPs of Swiggy, the delivery partners, covered an admirable 166.42 million green kilometers using electric vehicles and cycles, making sustainability delicious. Venkatasen, our delivery partner from Chennai, and Santhini from Kochi delivered a whopping 10,360 and 6253 orders each. Ramjeet Singh from Gurgaon delivered 9925 smiles while Pardeep Kaur made 4664 of her fellow Ludhianites happy with food deliveries. Going the extra mile, one of our delivery partners traveled 45.5 km to deliver some...wait for it- fast food, mentioned Swiggy Blog.
