The Statement That Said It All

In their joint post, the couple addressed the media directly, writing: "We note with dismay the unnecessary and intrusive attention to our personal lives by certain quarters of the media. We would like to state that we have decided to part ways and are taking the necessary time to address matters privately and amicably."

They pushed back firmly against the rumour mill. The statement noted that attempts had been made to sensationalise their private lives through fictitious narratives and falsehoods that did not reflect the reality of their relationship. The reason cited, when one was offered at all, was understated: evolving personal priorities, after which the two had mutually chosen to move forward on separate paths with respect and understanding for each other.

They closed on a note of warmth. The couple said they were focused on navigating this phase thoughtfully and privately, and that they would endeavour to cherish their friendship in the times to come.

How the Rumours Began

Speculation had been building for some time, with eagle-eyed fans noticing that Mouni and Suraj had unfollowed each other on Instagram. The couple also appeared to quietly remove wedding photographs from their profiles, a social media cleanup that many read as confirmation that the marriage was in trouble.

The speculation reached a peak when even Mouni's close friend, actress Disha Patani, unfollowed Suraj. A day before the formal announcement, Mouni had appealed to the media via social media, asking them not to publish false narratives and to give the couple space and privacy.

A Marriage That Began in Goa

Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar married on 27 January 2022 in Goa. Following pre-wedding celebrations including haldi and sangeet ceremonies, the couple wed in both Malayali and Bengali traditions. Suraj, who hails from Bengaluru, is a businessman and investment banker who had been based in Dubai before the wedding.

The two reportedly first met on New Year's Eve 2019 in Dubai. In keeping with their famously private nature, over the years they had shared glimpses of holidays, date nights, and celebrations on Instagram - until the separation rumours began to surface.

As recently as August 2025, Mouni had penned a heartfelt birthday note for Suraj, writing that her best time had started when she met him and that her love for him needed no reason.

What Comes Next

Mouni is a popular face of Indian television, known for shows such as Kasturi, Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, and Naagin, and has also appeared in films including Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva, Gold, and Made in China. She most recently hosted Temptation Island India. Her big screen credits also include the 2025 comedy-horror The Bhootnii and the spy thriller Salakaar.

Neither Mouni nor Suraj has spoken individually beyond the joint statement. For now, that appears to be precisely the point.
