Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi, will be celebrated on Monday, 19 August. This festival, observed in the Hindu month of Shravan, involves sisters tying a rakhi on their brothers' wrists and praying for their well-being. As the day approaches, many are curious about bank closures across India.

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Will Banks Closed On 19 August?
Banks will not be closed nationwide on Raksha Bandhan. According to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, both public and private sector banks will remain shut only in specific cities observing the holiday. The states where banks will be closed include Tripura, Gujarat, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
The festival's name translates to "safety" and "bond," symbolizing the special relationship between siblings. Celebrated on the full moon day of Shravan month, sisters apply tilak to their brothers' foreheads before tying the rakhi. Brothers reciprocate with gifts or tokens of appreciation.
In recent times, the tradition has expanded beyond just siblings. Friends and distant relatives also partake in tying rakhis to each other. This practice highlights the evolving nature of this cherished festival.
According to Drik Panchang, the Raksha Bandhan thread ceremony will start at 1:30 pm and continue for seven hours and 48 minutes, concluding at 9:08 pm on 19 August. This timing allows ample opportunity for families to celebrate together.
