Chinese New Year 2014: The Year of the Horse
The Chinese are busy celebrating their New Year 2014. Even Google is marking the New Year of the Chinese with their horse doodle. The year 2014 is the Chinese Year of the Horse which begins from Friday, January 31st. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the New Year falls on 31st January.
The Chinese New Year 2014 is going to be celebrated with fireworks and joy, like ever year. The riotous displays of fireworks is done to bring good luck. The Year of the Horse will start from January 31st which is falling on Friday. The lunar new year contains fire, wood, energy, etc.

Animals in Chinese Zodiac Calendar:
It is believed that the animals in the Chinese Zodiac calendar originated in the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) where they were used to count years in the same way as the modern Christian calendar. The Chinese Zodiac which is known as Sheng Xiao is based on a 12-year cycle, and each year in this cycle is related to an animal. As 12 full moons were observed in one year, the number 12 is used to divide the years and time.
The animals in the Chinese Zodiac are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each animal is associated with an earthly branch like fire, water, metal or wood.

It is believed that people born in The Year of the Horse are energetic, cheerful, bright and intelligent. They love being in the limelight and have strong communication skills. People born in The Year of the Horse are also referred to a "Qianli Ma" - a horse that covers a thousand li a day (one li is equivalent to 500 metres).
