Mountains Of The Gods: Environment Day Spl
We all know that the Himalayas are a mountain range that is sacred to Indians. For ages, the Himalayas have served as a barrier against enemy invasion. These mountains are also the originating point of rivers that are the life force of our nation. Even the holiest of the rivers Ganga, is born out of the Himalayan mountains. In short, we owe the very existence of life in India to these mountains. According to Hindu mythology, Himalayas is the place where gods reside. So it is often called the mountain of the gods.
Today, the 5th of June 2013 is World Environment Day. And it is sad for all Indians to admit that we have not done our best to protect the mountain of the Gods from the onslaught of pollution. That is why, the trailor of this movie mountain of the Gods makes lot of sense on World Environment Day. This movie by Sudeep Elamon shows the reality of how we are polluting the Himalayas. This video is the trailor of the movie.

First you see an idyll picture of paradise in this movie. Green meadows, the gigantic blocks of pure white ice rising from the horizon and a furious rivers lilting down the slopes. You also get a glimpse of the cultural diversity of the Himalayan region from this trailer of mountain of the Gods. There are the famous Naga sanyasis and other sages who meditate in these mountains. We can see Buddhist monasteries and the native people of the hills engaged in work.
Then comes the ugly frames of the sea of garbage that now rests in the valleys of these mountains. We just keep dumping plastic and non-biodegradable waste into nature's lap indiscriminately. Looks like our rivers will not be safe from pollution even at their birth place. When we can look up to the Himalayas and pray to them as the mountain of gods, then how can we possibly litter it so irresponsibly.
In the end you will be left with a feeling that the title Mountain of the Gods has come out of sarcasm and symbolism. On World Environment Day, it is worth our time to spare a moment for reflecting upon nature around us and what we have done to it.
