Russian National Day Celebrations In Mumbai

Spirits were high as the Russian National Day celebrations got underway at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. The Russian Counsul General Alexey Novikov took centre stage on the Russian national day event as he addressed the audience with a “Namaste".

On the occasion of the national day, he dwelled at length on the great historical background to Indo Russian friendship and expressed confidence that in the near future this would attain greater heights.

A dance troupe from Russia set the stage on fire on the Russian national day event with a variety of cultural and dance performances in colourful bright costumes. Sanjay Patil, honorable Loksabha MP, arrived well in time and cheered the performers as they had the audience spellbound with some breathtaking dancing skills. Amy and Farzad Billimoria thoroughly enjoyed the lavish spread which had some mouth watering Russian delicacies. Anil Deshmukh, honourable Cabinet Minister, complimented the Counsul General on his Hindi speaking skills and was delighted when he was greeted in fluent Hindi. Anil Deshmukh was engaged in a lengthy discussion with Viveck Shettyy and the honourable Counsul General.

Abha and Y.P. Singh also spent quality time at this gathering in Mumbai and so did jewellery designer Anup Shah who was accompanied by his wife Reeti. Actress Shama Sikander looked gorgeous in a black outfit and was accompanied by Alex O Neil who looked dapper in a grey suit. Vladimir Dementiev, Vice Consul and Director of the Russian Cultural centre also attended to all the guests personally and was a shining example of large hearted Russian hospitality. Kiran Shantaram and Ashok Kalantri also made their presence felt at this event. Viveck Shettyy, Anil Deshmukh and Vladimir Dementiev were also overheard planning to take the Russian dance troupe to Nagpur for their next cultural performance.
