National Youth Day - Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi
As the saying goes "Youths are the backbone of the country", today is the day dedicated to all the youths of the nation, today is the 26th "National Youth Day". January 12th is special for another reason, the day is Swami Vivekananda's birthday. The government of India, in 1984, declared to observe this day as the "National Youth Day" in a move to encourage youths to follow the ideals and principles of the great scholar.
;On national youth day, various mutts and missions around the nation celebrate swami Vivekananda's birthday by reciting devotional songs, bhajans, yogasanas, seminars conventions, competitions and many more activities to encourage the budding talents. Swami Vivekananda's writings and lectures were based on the Indian spiritual tradition and his master Sri Ramakrishna's preachings. The teachings have been a great source of inspiration and motivation to numerous youth organisations. His complete works have been published by Advaitha Ashrama in Kolkata.
This national youth day, pink city "Jaipur" is all decked for the national youth festival celebrations starting from today. The national youth day celebrations has been organised jointly by the ministry of youth affairs and sports, and the department of youth affairs and sports, Rajasthan. The five-day event will host 5,000 participants across the country to showcase their talents through cultural events as well as through various competitions like painting, drawing, slogan-writing etc.
