What The Rain Had Brought For Me

There may be memories associated with the upcoming monsoon rain for many of you. They may be nostalgic, melancholic, promising or even monotonous. As I think of rain, there are many feelings and emotions coagulating in my mind too. However there is one among them that is more prominent than others.
It was a season of strikes and chaos. Our university exam dates were extending endlessly and I was almost left alone at home without much work to do on those study holidays. Being a literature student provided me with its own benefits. I was delving into one book after another as the incessant rain sang its beautiful melodies for me. Dostovosky, Kipling, Agatha Christie, Rushdie, Kamala Das etc. opened many worlds of wonders through those pages. However the inevitable gloom was waiting to pour in.
The lethargic days associated with the monsoon blues seems to be the worst curse for an active teenager. After days of monotonous routine, I started to contemplate on my life. It is aptly said, "A lazy mind is a devil's workshop." The worlds and experiences that I've seen through the literary pages started to seduce me. I felt that I lead an unworthy life since I had none of those experiences till date in my life. I had a secure life; no adventures, no future plans and my life seemed to a boat that travels with a static rhythm.
Now, I want to venture into a new world of experiences. That may of romance, adventure, rebellion or anything. The dark clouds and pouring water added power to my helpless misery. I set aside the books and started to spend more time in deep thoughts. Even a brief attempt to break my silence provoked violent outbursts. I had sleepless nights thinking of the unpredictable future.
It was on the verge of this break up that a new light came to my life. One cloudy afternoon, I was sitting in the balcony, watching the endless threads of rain pouring in. The rain seemed to last endlessly and I was in my own thoughts. There, the rain stopped for a brief moment to my surprise. The ray of sunshine that was long not seen started to spread a golden colour around the place. Unknowingly my mind also started to grasp the positive energy from that divine light.
That day I realized the golden rule in my life. There is no need to worry about the happenings in your life. Why not waste your time contemplating on things over which you have no control at all? There is a world of vast opportunities in front of you that will open at the apt time only. The rain started to pour in again and I stepped back into my normal life with this new vision.
