Hyderabad Polo Season Commences From Sep 7

Taj Krishna is proud to be associated with the annual Hyderabad Polo Season 2008 and is the hospitality sponsor of the event. The tournament opens on September 7, culminating with an exhibition match on September 21 at the Secunderabad polo ground. Taj Krishnahas been associating with the annual event for many years and is synonymous with word luxury, be it in foods, sports or in arts/music.

The 2008 Hyderabad polo season will kick off with the AP Tourism Trophy (Sep 7-Sep 10) and followed by Army Commander's Trophy (Sep 12 – Sep 14) and Prince of Berar Cup (Sep 16 – Sep 19). The 14 days tournament will showcase some of the top notch Polo teams from across the country and will be played in four goal, six goal and eight-goal format.

This year some of the players playing in the Hyderabad Polo Season are Dhruvpal Godara, Manupal Godara and Sameer Suhag. The participating teams for the season comprises of Arty Centre Nasik, NDA, 61 Cavalry, PBG, Hyderabad Polo & Riding Club and APR & PC.

About the cups:
Prince of Berar Cup is a rolling trophy and is the oldest tournament of the Hyderabad Polo seasons. It is being organized for the last three decades in the memory of Azam Jah, the Prince of Berar and a great patron of Polo. The trophy will be a twelve-goal tournament, which is the best high goal tournament to be conducted in Hyderabad. AP Tourism Cup: Sponsored by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department and the cup was instituted in 2004. Army Commander's Cup was instituted in 2005 and is sponsored by the Indian Army. Exhibition Match will be played in memory of Mr. Prateek, who was one of the most enthusiastic patrons of the game in Hyderabad. The match will be played by some of the best players who participate in the Hyderabad Polo Season 2008.

About Polo
Polo is a team sport played outdoors on horseback in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Riders score by driving a white wooden or plastic ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet. Goals are only valid if the scoring rider is mounted. The traditional sport of polo is played outdoors, and each polo team consists of four riders and their mounts. Royal sports of Polo are played in across the world in 77 countries and were Olympic sports from 1900 to 1939.
